PhD
research opportunities are available to work on the development of new
polymeric materials and membranes for water desalination and reuse at the KingAbdullah University (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. KAUST is a
world-class university in science and engineering and offers exceptional
facilities for research, having some of the most advanced equipment for
microscopy, nanofabrication, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The student will
work under the supervision of Prof. Suzana Nunes in the Water Desalination and Reuse Center.
The
research topics in the group involve the design of new materials (e. g. block
copolyme rs synthesis, polymer fuctionalization, thin-film interfacial
polymerization) and membranes (flat sheet and hollow fiber), morphological
characterization and application for water treatment (forward osmosis,
nanofiltration).
Applicants
are required to provide evidence of superior performance in undergraduate
studies and Master's degree in Environmental Science and Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Chemical Science or Materials Engineering in leading universities
in the field. Cumulative GPA higher than 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent and
good English proficiency are minimun requirements. The deadline for application
is October 25 and the start date at KAUST is January 7th.
Please send
your CV, grades and 3 letters of recommendation to Prof. Nunes by email. General
information on student admission at KAUST is available here.
